Preparing for a move into tech

A recent MBA graduate with a background in consumer marketing was targeting product marketing roles in tech. She needed to show how her experience connected to the work those roles required.

She had around 10–15 professional stories to draw on. In an interview, she needed to choose a relevant example quickly, decide which details to emphasize, and explain her decisions when an interviewer asked for more.

“The hardest part is tailoring my stories to different interview questions on the spot.”

Over approximately two months, she spent around 10 hours using Cala Voice to refine her resume and personal pitch, practice behavioral interviews, and work through difficult follow-up questions.

Resumes for tech roles

Her resume reflected her consumer marketing career. To target tech product marketing roles, she needed to identify the experience that mattered most and make its relevance clear.

With Cala Voice’s career coach, she developed resume versions tailored to different role types, adjusting the emphasis for each opportunity. She also brought her resume and a specific job description into Coach Mode to refine her personal pitch.

Keeping each role’s context

She had previously practiced with ChatGPT Voice, friends, and her school’s career advisors. In Cala Voice, she particularly valued keeping separate preparation sessions for Product Marketing Manager and Go-to-Market Manager opportunities.

When she returned to an opportunity, its context was already there. She could focus on practicing an answer without having to explain the role or rewrite her instructions.

“I don't have to repeatedly enter the same instructions or prompts, which saves time and makes it easier to maintain a consistent practice routine.”

Choosing stories for the role

In Mock Interview Mode, she practiced her pitch, behavioral questions, and role-specific follow‑ups. She used the diagnostic feedback to identify answers that needed work, then brought those answers into Coach Mode.

Using the STAR framework (Situation, Task, Action, Result), she worked on which contribution to lead with, which results to highlight, and how to organize each story around what the role required.

“This allowed me to keep refining my responses rather than treating each mock interview as a one-time exercise.”

She returned to mock interviews to practice the revised answers and respond to follow‑ups. Each round of feedback and coaching focused on an answer she wanted to improve for that role.

Preparing for Amazon’s follow‑ups

She used Cala Voice’s mock interviews to test the depth of her behavioral stories. Unexpected follow‑ups helped her identify where she needed to make her reasoning and impact clearer.

Her Amazon preparation focused on explaining:

  • How customer insights shaped her decisions.
  • How she worked through stakeholder dynamics.
  • How her actions connected to measurable outcomes.
